During the 1984 to 1986 period I was personally involved in the extension of the Industrial Council of the Furniture Manufacturing Industries agreement on minimum wages and allied restrictive conditions on area outside of the council members area.

A look at academics, business people and politicians warning to the elite manufacturers that were ignored, opening the doors to Chinese replacements. During the past few years we have heard the criticism of the economy not investing profits that they have sitting in the bank in any ‘employment creation’ businesses. On the occasions that we do discuss this matter, we will always hear the comment that our labour legislation results in the fear to employ any labour.
